Azeri association condemns French Parliament`s bill

The Association of Women Journalists of Azerbaijan held an event over the bill of the Lower Chamber of the French parliament criminalizing denial of the so-called “Armenian genocide”.

Opening the event, President of the Association Sevil Yusifova stated that the bill creates a dangerous precedent restricting freedom of speech and expression in the world. The bill contradicts all normative-legal documents which France became a party to as well as a number of articles of the Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, Helsinki Final Act, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and other documents.

Speaking in the event, MP Ganira Pashayeva expressed assurance that the relevant decision would harm European values. She pointed out that French politicians have to take a serious approach to this issue. Other speakers also condemned the bill and called international organizations to take measures on the relevant issue. The attendees adopted a message to the international institutions.
