Azerbaijan notes construction work at Khojaly airport is illegal

Director of the State Civil Aviation Administration of Azerbaijan Arif Mammadov has attended the 137th meeting of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC). The issues on cooperation between all transport modes and current plans for the near future were discussed at the event

During the event the European Commission submitted a proposal to start negotiations on an agreement for “Common Aviation Area” with Azerbaijan in early 2012. On the sidelines of the conference, Arif Mammadov held meetings with the President of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), Catalin Radu and Regional Director (Europe/North Atlantic) of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Luis Fonseca de Almeida.

Mammadov drew the attention of Catalin Radu to the illegal construction works at the airport in Khojaly town in Azerbaijan`s occupied territory. The sides agreed to continue mutual consultations in 2012. At the meeting with Luis Fonseca de Almeida, Mammadov stressed the role of the ICAO in prevention of flights to Khojaly Airport without relevant permission. The sides agreed to continue consultations on this issue.
