Turkish media notes Azerbaijan`s support to Turkey

Leading newspapers of Turkey covered support of Azerbaijan, protesting against commenting on the bill adopted by the French Parliament aiming at criminalizing negation of the so-called Armenian genocide.

Newspapers “Star”, “Zaman” and “Milliyet” underlined the thoughts by chief of the socio-political department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Ali Hasanov. “The discussion of the so-called “Armenian genocide” question at the French Senate will add nothing positive to the interstate relations.”

The thoughts on the “so-called “Armenian genocide” is fabricated case that didn`t happen in the history. It`s an anti-Turk policy of some circles,” by the Azerbaijani politician was in the spotlight of the newspapers.

The articles stressed Azerbaijani vice-speaker Ziyafar Asgarov`s words: “The discussion of the decision is abasement against French parliament and democracy, decision seriously called the France`s fair position in the Minsk Group co-chairmanship in question.”

Turkish authoritative newspapers and TV channels covered a statement made by Azerbaijan`s Foreign Affairs Ministry on strongly condemning the French National Assembly`s approval of the bill penalizing genocide denial, according to the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency-AzerTAc.

“Azerbaijan expressed its surprise as this step contradicts freedom of speech and expression as basic principles of democracy in Europe, and runs counter to France`s obligations towards respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms. Azerbaijan expresses its deep regret that the French National Assembly enacted this bill but turned a blind eye to the fact that hundreds of thousand of Azerbaijanis were subjected to ethnic cleansing in the occupied territories, became internally displaced people in their lands and their rights were grossly violated".

The Anatolian Agency (AA), Ihlas and Cihan news agencies spread out the information.
Turkish press also emphasized the Azerbaijani non-governmental organizations` (NGOs) protest action held in front of French embassy in Baku.
