Iranian envoy: IAEA’s Iran report imbalanced, not reflecting Iran’s views

26 February 2010 [18:44] - TODAY.AZ
Iran’s envoy to international organizations in Vienna, Ali-Asghar Soltanieh, says the IAEA report is not balanced, failing to reflect Iran’s stances.
Soltanieh made the remark in a statement, that copies of which were distributed in an IAEA meeting on Wednesday following recent Iran report of the Agency's new chief Yukiya Amano.

Soltanieh said the IAEA Chief’s report has focused on unnecessary technical details, thus raising ambiguities and problems.

He added that unfortunately, the IAEA Chief’s report has re-touched the old and unpleasant issue, the alleged studies, as a new topic.

On the issue of Iran’s 20 percent enrichment referred to in the IAEA Chief’s report, Soltanieh said the Agency has in its correspondences explicitly said that the inspectors had been ordered to be present upon start of activities as they did.

Elsewhere in the statement, Soltanieh referred to correspondences between Iran and the IAEA, saying the new IAEA Chief’s report has failed to focus on the correspondences.

The Agency had the duty to reflect Iran’s explanations, he added.

Soltanieh referred to Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA on more than 17 cases, as the Director General’s report has pointed to that, saying that it is a sign of positive cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is still cooperating based on the Safeguards Agreement and is resolved to keep on doing it,” he added.
