Moscow Armenians shoot film about "ethic incompatibility" of Armenians and Azerbaijanis

10 December 2010 [18:43] - TODAY.AZ
Shooting of the film tentatively called "Interrupted Song”, a story about relations between an Armenian and Azerbaijani, who find themselves in a deep pit, has started in Moscow.

The images of the two characters reflect the relationship between the two peoples who have been hostile to each other for centuries, Armenia Today reports.

The film, which is being shot through funds of the Armenians at the age of 21-30 years old in Moscow, has already become a matter of discussion among the Armenian and Azerbaijani diaspora in Moscow. The film intends to reveal historical realities, which are an obstacle to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.

The film's director Arik Manoukian said that the film does not aim to justify any of the characters and assess Armenian-Azerbaijani realities, while the apparent hostility of these people to each other is reflected even at the level of the two presidents.

Film’s producer Ashot Pogosyan repeats former Armenian President Robert Kocharian’s words noting that "the film shows the truth in an artistic way: Armenians and Azerbaijanis are ethnically incompatible."

"In politics, one may keep silent about this. But it is sinful to hide this in a field of art. It is worth noting that to change any situation one is required at least start calling things by their proper names. This is what we are trying to do. How hard some people try to characterize it as incitement of hatred and instigating a war, it is still the same," Pogosyan says.

Just like Kocharian, producer of the film failed to explain how people with "ethnic incompatibility" could live side by side with no problems for generations. Premiere of the film will be held in Moscow in spring 2011.
