Sean Penn 'charged for paparazzi assault'

The Academy Award-winning actor was detained by police following an altercation with a photographer outside the Brentwood Country Mart, LA on October 2.

Penn is accused of hitting and kicking the man several times as well as breaking his camera, ABC reports.

He is expected to be arraigned on March 22.

The 49-year-old could face up to 18 months in jail if convicted, according to the City Attorney's office.
