An exhibition and lecture dedicated to the coins of the Shaki Khanate featuring the crown of the Russian Empire have taken place at the Russian House in Baku.

Visitors had an opportunity to explore a showcase of original and unique silver and copper coins from Shaki Khanate, dating back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Researcher Rustam Huseynov shared with AZERNEWS detailed insight into the historical events that led to the mining of these coins, their various types and highlighted the most interesting numismatic specimens in the collection.

"This topic is very intriguing yet unfortunately, it remains unexplored. Delving into this subject can significantly enrich our understanding of the region's history and provide valuable insights into the financial and economic activities of that era, as well as illuminate the political nuances of the final years of Shaki Khanate," he said.

During the lecture, Rustam Huseynov said that Shaki Khanate was a historical state that existed from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century in Azerbaijan's northwestern region.

The coins from Shaki Khanate, particularly the transitional types featuring crowns, offer a wealth of information about some aspects of Azerbaijani history and its relations with Russia, shedding light on both the political and economic narratives of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Some variants of Shaki Khanate coins are known to exist in extremely limited numbers, making them a rare finding in the world of numismatics.
