Baku celebrates World Music Day

Fete de la Musique, an annual music celebration, kicked off in Baku on June 21.

Also known as World Music Day, Fete de la Musique is a free public festival celebrating music.

The festival was held in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Guests enjoyed various styles of music, concerts of musicians, bands, orchestra that performed for free on that day.

Spectacular concerts of talented musicians left vivid memories. Saida Tagizade (classical music), Tural Jamshud (indie), Amina Zulfugarova (flute), Kenul Amirova (harp), Albina (jazz, pop), East or West (folk, pop), Lisse Van Vliet fusion), Les Gamins (pop, rock), Friday (rock), ArazÔzarA (psychedelic rock), Coda, Togrul (electro), representatives of the vocal school of People's Artist of Azerbaijan Fidan Hajiyeva delighted the listeners, Trend Life reported.

Amateur musicians, inspired by the professional artists, also went to the stage and performed their favorite songs, and the audience actively supported the participants of the festival.

The event was co-organized by the Embassy of France and the French Institute in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, the State Tourism Agency, the Administration of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve Icherisheher, the Space of Contemporary Art YARAT, Street Food Festival and Maks Events. 

World Music Day is a celebration of music across the world for the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year.

In 1982, French politician Jack Lang and composer Maurice Fleuret discovered that five million French people played some kind of musical instrument. To celebrate and give everyone the chance to enjoy music, they started World Music Day.

More than 100 countries, musicians of all ages perform at free musical events, singing and playing for everyone to enjoy.

The festival aims to expose as many people to music as possible. Many free concerts are organized, making all genres of music accessible to the public.
