Azerbaijan joins Friendship of Peoples expo in Nizhny Novgorod

A regional branch of the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress has participated in the Friendship of Peoples exhibition in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod, Azertac reported.

The exhibition aimed at strengthening international friendship among people, as well as developing cultural ties and familiarizing students with the history, culture of different nations.

The special event featured bright and vivid program, including the presentation of video film "The  World Without War".

Alfiya Badautdinova, a member of the ensemble "Karabakh" performed a dance under the sounds of the beautiful Azerbaijani folk song 'Sari Gelin' (Yellow Bride).  Sari Gelin’ is written in the literary genre known as bayati, which is one of the most popular forms of poetry in Azerbaijan. Bayati poetry is known for its reflective and introspective prose. Generally, Bayati poetry consists of lines of seven syllables written in a simple rhythm. 

Sar? is a Azerbaijani adjective meaning "yellow". However, it can also mean "fair-skinned" or "blonde". The word gelin means someone who comes to the family (i.e. a bride), with its root in the Azerbaijani word gel (meaning "come"). 

Azerbaijan's stand at the exhibition highlighted the rich ethnic and cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people, as well as the tourism potential of the country, household items, musical instruments, traditional clothes and souvenirs.

The stand also featured magazines as IRS, Baku, AMOR, books about the outstanding Azerbaijani personalities, Azerbaijani cuisine albums, and music CDs.
