Days of Azerbaijani Culture kick off in Greece

Days of Azerbaijani Culture kicked off in Crete, Greece, on June 1.

The event is organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Greece in partnership with the administration of Crete and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Greece reported.

In the framework of the events in various cities of Crete, the guests have a chance to view works of Azerbaijani theaters, mugham and Azerbaijani folk dances. The event will run until June 4.

Greece recognized Azerbaijan's independence in 1991 and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

Currently, the two countries, which enjoy various religious, historical, and cultural commonalties, are focused on expanding economic and cultural ties, especially in oil industry.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Public Gas Corporation of Greece (DEPA) is a step forward in this direction.

Greece was the first European Union member country that wanted directly import gas from Azerbaijan.

Both countries are full members of Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC)
