The fourth International “From Waste to Art” exhibition, featuring works created from household waste, is running in Baku.

The unusual exhibition, which kicked off on June 15 and put on display the works of 23 artists from 17 countries, is located at the Gala settlement.

This unique spectacle is jointly organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, "Clean City" organization, IDEA Public Association, Historical-Architectural Reserve "Icherisheher", and the “Q Gallery” art gallery.

The exhibition seeks to assess and propose a responsible approach to handling waste. The value of the event arises in the artists’ unique abilities to create art from ordinarily disposed items.

Many participants of the exhibition said that they would change their attitudes toward their personal belongings. Inspired by the exhibit, some even said they will create works of art themselves using their own waste. There were even those who wanted to present their work at next year’s exhibition.

A museum entitled “From Waste to Art” has also been opened in the Gala settlement. Works that were featured in previous exhibitions will be permanently housed in the museum.

Initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the exhibition is held as part of a pilot project entitled "Clean Gala", which is being implemented by The "Clean City". The project holds a variety of educational activities throughout Azerbaijan aimed at teaching citizens proper ways to sort waste.
