Famous "Giselle" ballet to be staged in Baku

Ballet lovers will be happy to know that the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater will host the world renown “Giselle” ballet on June 13.

The ballet will be performed by incomparable Azerbaijani honored artist, Chinara Alizada and Russian honored artist, Andrey Merkuryev.

Alizada is a soloist of the Russian Bolshoi Theater. She holds the gold medal and first prize of the International Ballet Competition Moscow, 2005.

The interest in this play will probably be high with the audience, since for the first time in the history of the Bolshoi Theater, an Azerbaijani ballerina will play as part of the ballet troupe.

The Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater has close creative contacts with Chinara and annually invites her on tours in Baku.

Her performances always attract a large audience and are held on a very high professional level. She played in such famous ballets as “Swan Lake” and “Don Quixote”.

The ballet will be conducted by famous Azerbaijani conductor Javanshir Jafarov.

The play will open at 19:00. The address of the venue is Khagani street, 7 and tickets will be sold at 22 and 33 manats.

In this ballet, the whole plot is built around the tragic fate of a country girl - Giselle, who falls in love with the wrong man, graph Albrecht. The man is also betrothed to a beautiful aristocrat. However, the graph deceived the poor creature, dressed in simple peasant clothes.

The second part of the opera is fantastic. Like all the souls which deceive girls, Giselle became Vilis (a fictitious creature), thus joining the souls of all those girls who died of unrequited love.

Conscience torments both the forester and the graph. Making their way to Giselle's tomb at night, forester dies, surrounded by round dance Vilis, and only love Giselle saves the graph from certain death.
