Azerbaijani culture evening thrills Frankfurt

The German city of Frankfurt hosted the Evening of Azerbaijani Culture organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Over 500 guests including many prominent figures attended the event to enjoy beautiful samples of Azerbaijani music.

Anar Alakbarov, the executive director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, representatives of the government and parliament of Hesse federal state and representatives of foreign diplomatic corps accredited in Germany were among the participants.

Addressing the opening ceremony Ambassador Parviz Shahbazov said this evening takes place within the framework of a series of events being held following the initiative of Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.

He gave information about the country’s location at the crossroads of the East and West, its culture and music, contribution made by the country to the world music, and Garabagh – the music cradle of the Azerbaijani people – being under occupation by Armenia.

The ambassador also touched upon Azerbaijan-German relations. He said that the two visits held by President Ilham Aliyev to Germany in early 2015 made a significant contribution to the development of bilateral relations in between the two countries.

He also went ahead inviting Frankfurt residents to attend the upcoming European Games - to be held for the first time in Baku on June 12-28.

Baku, which was chosen to host the Games by the European Olympic Committees in December 2012 will see over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to compete in 20 sports, including 16 Olympic.

The host of the event provided information about the historical ties in between Azerbaijan and Germany, the German heritage existing in Azerbaijan, as well as projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation within the country and abroad. The projects are aimed at preserving cultural heritage, promoting cultural relations and improving conditions for better education of the youths.

The grandiose music program performed by Azerbaijani jazzman Elchin Shirinov and jazzmen from Great Britain, Dave Hamblet and Andrea Di Biase was warmly welcomed by the audience.

At the same time, a photo-exhibition titled “German Traces in Azerbaijan ”was also held during the event.

The previous cultural event held by the Foundation was held in the German city of Dusseldorf in 2014.
