Sweden wins Europe's Favorite TV Show

The exciting event Eurovision Song Contest which gathered thousands of people in the Wiener Stadthalle arena and millions of people on TV saw its winner crowned in the beautiful Austrian capital of Vienna on May 23.

Mans Zelmerlow from Sweden won the 2015 edition of Europe's Favorite TV Show with the song "Heroes."

The Swedish singer brought the Scandinavian nation their second win in four years, picking up an impressive 365 points.

Speaking on his feelings, Mans said: "It was absolutely amazing. I didn't hear it when they first said it... I thought Russia or Italy would win it. But then I did it, and I was so happy. My feelings are now all over the place. I am so proud, so excited, so full of joy."

The final outcome was decided by a 50:50 split in between professional juries and televoting from all 40 participants.

The 27 finalists were made up of 20 qualifiers from the first and second Semi-Finals held on the May 19 and 21 and seven automatic qualifiers including the Big 5 countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Russia’s Polina Gagarina finished in second place with her ballad “A Million Voices”, while Italy’s operatic effort "Grand Amore" came third.

Azerbaijani representative Elnur Huseynov placed 12 with his mystical ballad “Hour of the Wolf”, gaining 49 points.

The song was written by Sandra Bjurman, Nicolas Rebscher, Nicklas Lif and Lina Hansson. Two dancers were included in the performance, who played on a love story on the stage.

On his official website Elnur thanked all his fans, “Thank you all – the best fans ever, the team and everyone who was with us till the Grand Final. You’re amazing!”

Meanwhile, Ebru Gundesh, who was Elnur’s mentor in “The Voice Turkey” show, which the talented singer won, supported him on one of the social network, writing “You are a winner for us!”

The right for hosting the contest by Austria came when Conchita Wurst brought home the trophy with her "Rise Like A Phoenix" from Copenhagen in 2014. The official slogan of 2015 Eurovision Song Contest was "Building Bridges".

The contest which is being held for the 60th time in Europe has seen the victory of 46 women participants. The last man contestant to win the contest was Azerbaijani Eldar Gasimov in the music duo Ell & Nikki with Nigar Jamal bringing first place from Germany to Azerbaijan in 2011.

This year for the first time, Australia participated in the contest. The Czech Republic after a five-year pause and Cyprus and Serbia after a year time-out also competed on the Eurovision stage.

Due to financial and political issues Ukraine did compete at the contest, while Turkey chose not attend the event, as in 2013 and 2014.
