Baku Music Academy named after Uzeir Hajibeyli, a leading Azerbaijani musical school, established in Baku in 1920 will celebrate its 95th anniversary this year.

In connection with the remarkable event a concert program will be held in the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall named after Muslim Magomayev on April 4.

Uzeyir Hajibeyli Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra will accompany students of the Honored Art Worker, Professor Tarlan Seyidov’s piano class, laureates of international contests Anna Biryukova and Nigar Husseinzade.

The art director and chief conductor of the event is professor Rauf Abdullayev.

The program will also include Robert Schumann and Sergei Prokofiev’s amazing concerts for piano and symphonic orchestra.

The venue of the event to be scheduled to 07:00pm is Shamsi Badalbayli street, 98.

Most composers, musicologists, choral conductors, performers of classical and folk instruments, vocalists get an education in Baku Music Academy, who are highly regarded in the international arena, both as teachers and performers.

Previously known as the Uzeir Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Conservatoire, the establishment of the Academy was proposed by Uzeir Hajibeyli, an Azerbaijani and conductor, publicist, playwright, teacher and social figure, who began a movement aimed at propagating classical music among the people.

He is recognized as the father of Azerbaijani classical music and opera.

Hajibeyli is a composer of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic’s national anthem (which was re-adopted after Azerbaijan regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991).

He sought for new ways to merge and integrate the past with the present. When Russian-influenced musicians tried to ban traditional Azerbaijani instruments like the Tar, Zurna and Kamancha, Hajibeyli and his colleagues pushed to incorporate them into the Western orchestra, thereby, giving them an even higher status and ultimately a chance to survive.
