Mugam Center presents unforgettable evening for music lovers

For the past few days Baku’s International Mugam Center has pleased its visitors with magnificent concerts within the traditional Fourth International Music Festival “The World of Mugham”.

Being held to promote Azerbaijan’s national music to the world the event has been organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Culture and Tourism Ministry and Azerbaijan Composers Union.

During the musical event Azerbaijan’s khanendes mesmerized the public with masterpiece compositions. Alongside national musicians, foreign performers came to showcase their music at the festival, as to introduce Azerbaijan to their traditional music.

Every day the festival get acquaint visitors to a certain kind of Mugam. On March 16, the public had a chance to listen to one of the sonorous mugam -- “Bayati-shiraz”.

Many famous national art people including Professor Firangiz Alizadeh, "Artist for Peace" UNESSO, people’s artist Siyavush Kerimi, as well as Murad Huseynov, director of the International Mugam Center and other prominent figures of culture and art attended the visit, watching all performers with great pride and care. Guests from all ages thoroughly enjoyed the musical experience.

Young musicians such as Atabey Ismailov (on Tar -- national instrument) and Shamsi Abilli, performed Bayati-shiraz “Fantasy”.

Then, honored artist Yashar Shushaly went on stage together with the orchestra to perform the Fourth Symphony “Mugamvari” by Agshin Alizadeh. The orchestra finished the concert with the work of acclaimed people’s artist Firangiz Alizadeh - "Shushtar."

Another talented musician young tar master Javanshir Rustamov performed music from Fikret Amirov's ballet "1001 Nights", a performance which left the public mesmerized. The performance was met by applause and a standing ovation.

Nazakat Teymurova (khanende), Jabir Abdullayev (khanende), Sabuhi Ibayev (khanende), Aysu Sadigova (canon), Aliaga Sadiyev (Tar), Shirzad Fataliyev (balaban -- national instrument), Jeyhun Muradov (kamancha -- national instrument), Kamran Kerimov (nagara -- national instrument) and Galib Hamishov (ud) also performed at the event.

Then, the Center’s stage hosted musician guests from Iran: talented young instrumentalists and Alirez Gorbani, a folk luminary of Iranian music.

The performance was stunning. The musicians won the public's hearts with their colorful performances. Each artist showed his inimitable skill and professionalism, making musical instruments literally heat up on their touch and provide magical melodies affecting the people’s very souls.

When the performance was over, the hall burst into loud applause. Everyone thanked the musicians for a wonderful evening.

Mugham entered into the global culture heritage at the beginning of the last century by attracting the attention of cultural experts and music critics around the globe.

The lyrical music of Mugham attracts today the young and old by its delightful sounds. At present, this pearl of Azerbaijani music art continues to take new forms, attracting attention worldwide.
