A photo exhibition entitled “Genocide of Three Generations”, depicting the horrors of Khojaly genocide was launched in Aalten, the Netherlands.

The exhibition put on display 125 photos reflecting acts of genocide committed by Armenians in Khojaly and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan in 1992.

In 1992, Khojaly the second largest town in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan came under intense fire from the towns of Khankendi and Askeran which had been occupied by the Armenian armed forces earlier.

During the massacre, 613 civilians -mostly women and children- were killed, and a total of 1,000 people were disabled. Eight families were exterminated, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one of their parent.

Moreover, 1,275 innocent people were taken hostage- the fate of 150 of them still remains unknown. Some civilians were shot at close range, scalped, and burned alive. Some had their eyes gouged out and others were beheaded.

The organizer of the exhibition, Ilhan Ashkin, the Head of the Turkish Cultural Center noted that Aalten city was specially selected for this exhibition. He said that, Aalten was one of the cities most affected by the German Nazi aggression during World War II.

The visitors were informed about the barbarism committed against the civil population of Khojaly 23 years ago, the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenian armed forces and about the Armenians’ ethnic cleansing policy.

They were also informed about the Armenia’s acts of genocide carried out against Azerbaijanis in 1905 and 1918.

The exhibition was visited by a large number of people. Earlier, the “Genocide of Three Generations” exhibition was displayed in the Brussels and The Hague. The exhibition is planned to be launched in other cities of the Netherlands after Aalten.
