May be no word can represent contemporary art as freedom. Modern artists usually seek for unusual and even extraordinary ways to express their talent.

Last years we faced lots of quite interesting and at the same time offbeat masterpieces which were created for example with industrial waste and other rubbish or works of an artist who uses ice-cream instead of paints to clearer convey his ideas to his paintings ice-cream.

60 year-old Azerbaijani artist Sabir Chopuroglu is one of those unique artists who gives a new life to his pictures by using something indifferent. His material is oil.

He was lucky to be born in a very picturesque place, where he firstly got acquainted with a bottle of oil, which further played an important role in his life.

"I did not tell anyone about this idea for a long time. I heartily experienced it and then I surprised everyone," Sabir cited.

At its "oil" paintings, Chopuroglu adds expressive improvisation, achieving the desired monumentality. As a consequence, these full expression paintings resemble appearance of the stone reliefs and sculptures.

Chopuroglu sometimes remembers how he sold his works at Torgoviya street, where other local artists put their works on display.

The first nation who got interested in the artist's unusual paintings were Germans. And thereafter, as in Hollywood films, a stunning success was waiting for him in the future, which he even couldn't imagine.

The workroom, where the artist created his works alone is filled with flavor of "black gold". What is more interesting is that he doesn't use brushes, but paint his works using only his fingers and nails.

The artist doesn't put any sketches to create a complex plot. He draws remarkably accurate elements, thanks to his graphical talent and powerful intuition.

Sabir's creativity shows that constant experimentation don't fed him up. This is confirmed by his works which are built on a merger of oil and color.

With such a mixed technique, the artist is able to transmit the feelings of his characters, original features of urban, rural and natural motifs, the splendor of architectural monuments, the beauty of the Karabakh horses, old Absheron, a measured move caravans on the Silk Road, tenderness gathered at the spring girls and a unique rhythm Sufi dances.

Sabir's works are famous in the U.S., Spain, France, Belgium, German and in private collections of many influential people.

A film named "A man of oil" has been shot about the artist. The film is about the artist's life who draws, earns and takes a bath with oil.

The unique features of the artist's creativity and unusual technique which used to be completely unknown in the circles of artists, have brought Sabir Chopuroglu many fans both within the country and far beyond its borders. So, in 2006 the artist was awarded the II International Symposium of Artists in Erwitte Horn in Germany. He also became the winner of many awards, including a diploma for his picture Caspian Symphony in Germany.
