Baku to host UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee`s 8th session

 The UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage will hold its 8th meeting in Azerbaijan in December 2013.

The decision was made at the 7th session of the Committee held in the UNESCO headquarters on December 3-7. The meeting in Baku will be dated to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 2003.

Thus, the eighth session of the Committee will be chaired by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism. China, Greece, Burkina Faso, Brazil and Egypt were elected as Vice-Chairmen of the Committee.

The 7th session of the committee was attended by about 800 delegates from 16 participating countries of the Convention. The Azerbaijani art of tar performing was included in the Representative List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
