SOCAR to complete installation of smart gas meters in Baku in 2012

In 2012 the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) plans to complete the provision of all subscribers in Baku with gas meters by working with smart cards, SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said.

He said there are about 600,000 subscribers in Baku. SOCAR installs about 1,000 gas meters daily. Next year, the installation of new gas meters will be completed.

SOCAR is working in all Azerbaijani regions to improve the quality of the gas supply. Investment projects are geared toward gas distribution facilities throughout the country, in particular the main gas pipelines, aiming for improvements in distributing gas during the upcoming winter season, Abdullayev said.

He said that laying out new gas pipelines will bring the distribution levels in Azerbaijan to 95 percent.
