EU to ‘strengthen’ energy cooperation with Azerbaijan

European Union commissioner for energy expressed the organization's readiness to strengthen efforts towards developing the energy cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Günter Oettinger met with president of Azerbaijan`s state oil firm, SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullayev, on the sidelines of the Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference.

The European Union commissioner expressed confidence the organization and the country would boost their partnership in realizing the South Corridor project.

Oettinger said the Baku Exhibition and Conference demonstrated that Azerbaijan`s energy sector enjoyed development.

The commissioner said European Union regarded Azerbaijan a reliable partner in terms of energy security.

The SOCAR chief also praised the energy cooperation between the country and the organization.

Abdullayev noted Azerbaijan had become big oil and gas exporter playing a key role in European energy security.

He underlined the importance of oil and gas projects realized in Azerbaijan. The SOCAR president said the country was considering all the projects to export natural gas, including EU-supported Nabucco and TAP.
