Azerbaijan to introduce electron registry for addresses

25 May 2011 [17:30] - TODAY.AZ
Addresses will be assigned to building entrances in Azerbaijan, the Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority representative Helge Onsurd said during a presentation on the topic "Address registry in Azerbaijan: Challenges and Prospects" in Baku on Wednesday.

"Now every building in the country has a number of entrances that are not taken into account because only the buildings are numbered. Address for each entrance is a very suitable system that meets European standards, as it is easy to find the specified address using it," Onsurd said.

He said the Norwegian Authority in cooperation with the Azerbaijani State Property Committee has already begun to create this registry.

"During this year we will be able to fully assemble a system for electron registry of addresses, and a register of roads and streets will be prepared as part of work to create this registry," he said.

According to Onsurd, the project covers the entire country. Its full commissioning both in Baku and throughout the country is expected in 3-4 years.

Earlier, Azerbaijan and Norway signed a grant agreement to create a registry.
