There are potential opportunities to expand economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia, Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev reported at a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Vera Kobalia on Monday.

Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Vera Kobalia arrived in Baku on one-day visit.

The Azerbaijani-Georgian relations are developed at a high level due to the joint efforts of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan reported.

"Azerbaijan and Georgia are key partners in such internationally important projects as oil export pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, gas pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum, and railway Baku-Tbilisi-Kars," Mustafayev said.

The Minister said these large-scale strategic projects, apart from contributing positively to regional development, are very important from the point of the provision of European energy security and development of the transport corridor East-West.

The two countries have so far concluded about 90 bilateral agreements, of which 50 relate to the regulation of relations in the sphere of economy. An office of the Azerbaijani Export and Investments Promotion Foundation has been opened in Tbilisi, and the Azerbaijani Business Institution in Georgia (AZEBI) has been established.

The usefulness of mutual visits, business forums and business meetings for the expansion of cooperation between the countries was noted at the meeting.

In her part, the Georgian Minister of Economy voiced her satisfaction with the level of Azerbaijan’s economic development and entertained a hope for a further development of relations between the two countries.

In addition, the Georgian team led by Economy Minister Vera Kobalia acquainted with an exhibition illustrating Azerbaijan’s socioeconomic development.

Presentation of Georgia’s investment opportunities to Azerbaijani business people is expected to take place on Tuesday. Besides, the Georgian guests will familiarize with the activities of some of local enterprises.
