Grant contract on irrigation system in Azerbaijan's regions inked

A signing ceremony of a grant contract for "The project for Improvement of Irrigation System in eight villages in Barda and Agjabedi Region" was held in Barda at the office of local authorities on Thursday. The ambassador of Japan to Azerbaijan Shusuke Watanabe participated in the event.

Barda governor Vidadi Isayev thanked Japanese government for the assistance in implementing the project.

Japanese ambassador to Azerbaijan provided information about the projects implemented under the Japanese government`s “Grassroots and human security Grant Assistance” program. The total amount of the Japanese Grant Assistance is USD 98,444.

The project is aimed to increase agricultural productivity and household income of the farmers in eight villages of Barda and Agjabedi districts by improving provision of irrigation services.

Subartesian wells in eight villages in Barda and Agjabedi Region will be reconstructed as a part of the project.

The contract is the tenth project implemented in Barda, fourth in Agcabadi.
The total amount of Japan's Official Development Assistance provided for the Republic of Azerbaijan is over $1 billion, covering a wide range of areas such as improvement of economic infrastructure, agricultural and social sectors, cultural field as well as human capacity development.

After the meeting, ambassador of Japan to Azerbaijan Shusuke Watanabe and executive director of "Aran Humanitarian Regional Development Organization" Rauf Aliyev signed the contract.
