Azerbaijani may adopt special law on tourism development

24 January 2011 [15:50] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan may adopt a specific law aimed at developing tourism, Parliamentary Culture Committee Chairman Nizami Jafarov told Trend on Monday.
"The Parliamentary Culture Committee together with other relevant committees is considering developing a separate law on tourism development," Jafarov said.

2011 was declared the "Year of Tourism" in Azerbaijan upon President Ilham Aliyev's initiative.

Jafarov said the possibility of realizing pilot projects aimed at the protection and restoration of historic monuments in Azerbaijan's regions is also under consideration.

"The Azerbaijani regions are not only places to stay, they are rich in historical monuments, with a diverse ethnography and cuisine. Separate laws maybe adopted for these regions," he added.

He stressed that today the Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry is working to amend the law on tourism adopted 15 years ago.

The new law will focus on the cultural component of tourism - bringing historic sites into compliance with tourism requirements, Jafarov said.
