Egypt, Azerbaijan to launch strategic cooperation in oil & gas

Egypt's Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi and Azeri Minister of Industry and Energy Natiq Aliyev attended ceremonies to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Azerbaijan State Oil Company (SOCAR) and the Oil and Gas Skills Company (OGS), an offshoot of the Egypt General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

Natig Aliyev expressed admiration of the level of programs launched by the OGS and said Azerbaijan would benefit from the Egyptian practical and applied potentials in the field of natural gas industries and liquefaction.

Fahmi and his Azeri counterpart had talks on means to launch strategic cooperation between the two countries. The cooperation envisages a study to set up a developed laboratory to refine oil in Egypt and import and liquefy Azerbaijani crude oil in Egyptian units.

Aliyev commended the Egyptian institutions he visited, including the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR), the Arab Petroleum Company (SUMED), the Engineering for the Petroleum and Processing Industries (Enppi) and Petrojet.
