The gasoline prices are not expected to be increased next year, the President of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) Rovnag Abdullayev said on Dec. 12.

"I can say that rising prices for gasoline is not expected," said Abdullayev.

According to him, to increase the gasoline prices, SOCAR must make an appeal to the Tariff (Price) Council of Azerbaijan. But the company has not made such an appeal, said Abdullayev.

Prices for oil products in Azerbaijan are controlled by the state. According to the Cabinet of Ministers' decision dated Jan. 6, 2007, new prices for fuel have been fixed in Azerbaijan since Jan. 8. According to the Cabinet of Ministers' decision, price for 1 liter of diesel fuel L-62 was fixed to the amount of 0.45 manat, motor petrol AI-80 - 0.55 manat, AI-92 - 0.55 manat but AI-95 - 0.60 manat.

Reports that the government will increase fuel prices are untrue, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev said.

He also ruled out the probability of an increase in fuel prices in the near future.

"In this regard, we have received no proposal, neither did we send proposals to the Tariff Council,” he added.
