SOCAR plans to buy oil refinery in Italy

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) plans to buy “significant” part of stakes of an oil refinery in Italy, SOCAR top manager said.
SOCAR seeks to ensure a reliable sale for its oil abroad. A month ago the company announced that it is negotiating to buy a refinery in Ukraine and that it intends to build refining capacity independently.

“We have willingness and we are actively working on investments. We would like to have refineries outside Azerbaijan. This is kind of insurance against risks,” Director of the SOCAR subsidiary SOCAR Trading SA Valery Golovushkin said on the sidelines of the conference Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference.
