Azerbaijan's role in supplying hydrocarbons is one of most important: U.S. diplomat

27 August 2009 [11:12] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's role in providing alternative energy supply routes from the Caspian Sea to world markets is one of the most fundamental and important, U.S. Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy Richard Morningstar said in Astana.
"Firstly, Azerbaijan is a country that has its resources and delivers them to Turkey and Europe. Moreover, it is a transit country, and through it oil is transported via the Caspian from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan," said Morningstar.

"I want to note that we are confident that the transport routes that pass through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey will be reliable and safe for supply of hydrocarbons."

"Naturally, security issues are very important and measures should be taken to ensure security of region's infrastructure. In turn, the U.S. and other countries will fully support these projects," Morningstar said.

"I should add that all the pipelines in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey were originally built considering their safety," said Morningstar.
