08 August 2009 [11:09] - TODAY.AZ
The agreement reached between Turkey and Russia on South Stream pipeline project shows that Turkey is trying to ensure itself against non-realization Nabucco gas pipeline project, Professor of International Relations of Turkish Ishik University Bulent Aras said.
"The agreement reached between Turkey and Russia on South Stream project contain aspects that do not draw attention. Other projects passing through Turkey are under the control of Europe. The agreement on South Stream project will not create obstacles for realization of Nabucco project," he said.

"The main goal of all three projects is to deliver gas to the European market," Aras said.

Turkey loses nothing from reaching agreement on this project, Aras said, because Turkey is not a gas producer, but a country, which through its territory gas is transported to Europe and the world market.

Recently, Russia and Turkey signed an inter-governmental protocol on cooperation in gas sphere.

Signing this document will allow Russia to conduct exploration work in Turkey on South Stream project.
