27 April 2009 [11:06] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's contemporary energy policy is an important party of the country's foreign and domestic policy.
Major objective of the country's domestic energy policy is to provide national energy security, increase oil and gas production, develop fields, boost energy resources production capacity by using new advanced technologies, as well as develop use of recoverable energy sources, Azerbaijani Energy and Industry Minister Natik Aliyev stated to the third Caspian oil and gas trade and transport conference in Baku on April 27.

"One of key factors of increasing production is to raise capacity of the existing pipelines and opportunities of constructing new ones," Aliyev said.

The cooperation of Caspian littoral countries in energy sector envisages not only joint exploration of oil and gas fields, as well as cooperation within the energy transportation corridors North-South, West-East and use of alternative sources.

The minister said gas pipelines connecting highways of eastern and western coasts are regarded more efficient method of natural gas delivery from the eastern coast of the Caspian. "The statements about environmental threats are groundless," Aliyev added.

Organizers of the conference are British company Confidence Energy and the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. Trend Capital renders media support to the event.
