President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated a tunnel on the Khyrdalan circle at the 11th km point of the Baku-Guba-Russia border highway.
Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov informed the President that the tunnel is 700m in length, 20m in width and 5m in height.
A plaque on the tunnel reads: "The tunnel was constructed at the order of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev. July 2008 – February 2009".
Responsible for the reconstruction work at the Baku-Guba-Russia border highway, which began last May, is local Akkord Group of Companies. Funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the reconstruction project envisages the paving of a section of the road between 16th and 134th km points. The facility will have 21 bridges and overpasses, 10 interchanges, 15 cattle crossings, and 5 service centers along the road. Part of the road was inaugurated last August with President Ilham Aliyev in attendance.
