21 July 2008 [15:22] - TODAY.AZ
A delegation, led by head engineer of the Azerbaijani State Railway Service Gurban Nazirov is taking part at a trilateral meeting on the opening of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad, held in Tbilisi, said spokesman for the Azerbaijani State Railway Service Nadir Azmamedov.
He said the session focuses on the document, prepared by the Kiev project institute regarding construction of the Marabda-Kartsakhi railway section.

"The due decision is expected to be adopted upon completion of the event", said Azmamedov.

It should be reminded that the final document between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, regarding BTK construction was signed in Tbilisi on February 8. Azerbaijan has allocated a lax credit in the amount of $200,000,000 for the term of 25 years for yearly 1% to the Georgian Marabda-Kartsakhi railroad for construction of the Georgian section of the railroad.

At the expense of these funds, a new road of 29 km will be constructed in the Georgian territory, the point on service and technical maintenance on the Turkey border and an old road will also be reconstructed. The overall cost of the BTK project exceeds $600,000,000.

The Georgian section is constructed by the Azerinshaatservice company. The road is to be launched by late 2009. A new railroad extending to 76 kilometers will be built via Turkey from the Georgian border to Kars.
