Alan Waddams: "EU tries to support Azerbaijan in its WTO accession"

11 June 2008 [09:53] - TODAY.AZ
Head of the European Commission's representative office in Azerbaijan Alan Waddams announced that EU will support Azerbaijan in its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
"In all talks on Azerbaijan's WTO accession the European Union tries to support Azerbaijan", said Waddams Tuesday.

"Of course, the European Union supports Azerbaijan's WTO accession. Merely, this is not an easy process, it implies discussions and talks with not only the European Union but also other countries", noted he.

At the same time, Waddams admitted that there are some difficulties in discussing services and tariffs.

He said, a session of the Committee for cooperation between Azerbaijan and European Union will be held in Brussels on June 20. Among issues planned for discussion, he listed human rights, provision of democracy, elections, cooperation and neighborhood policy. A session of the subcommittee on industry and energy will be held in April of 2009.

It should be reminded that Azerbaijan is an observer under WTO since 1997 and tends to complete talks on full membership in 2009.
