Azerbaijan accounting for 44 national TV and radio companies

The National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting has summed up its five year activity.

Nushirevan Magerramly, chairman of the National Council, told a press conference on the five year activity that the activity is divided into two stages: the first stage (from 2003 until June of 2005) can be called a preliminary period) and the second (from 2005 until now) a period of active operation.

He said the most important achievement of the National Council is the regulation of the activity of the TB and radio channels and bringing legislation to the due level.

"AZN 1,382,000 has been allocated for the operation of the National Council through 5 years, with 70 sessions held.

Currently, the National Council has 45 workers. We need new workers each time a new TV channel is opened. We also need a worker to hold a monitoring for each two channels", he said.

Magerramli announced that Azerbaijan currently accounts for 44 national TV and radio structures, including 21 TV channels, 11 radio channels and 12 cable TV channels.

Moreover, 3 foreign radio stations and 1 Turkish TV channel -TRT are transmitted in Azerbaijan.
