Azerbaijan halts poultry imports from Turkey and Ukraine due to avian flu - UPDATED

The State Veterinary Service under Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture has banned poultry imports from Turkey and Ukraine, where avian flu was revealed, since January 23.

The spokesman for the service Yolchu Khanveli said Azerbaijan imported poultry products of the poultry farms on the Turkish seashore of the Mediterranean Sea, while the Ukrainian products are not imported into the country.

It should be reminded that the State Veterinary Service banned import of poultry products from Iran on January 18. The list of countries of banned import also includes the Rostov region of Russia, Poland, Germany, Great Britain, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Southeastern Asian states.

Azerbaijan currently imports poultry products only from the USA and Brazil.

Azerbaijan is going to put a ban on importation of poultry products from Turkey after reports that bird flu was found in Zonguldagh of Turkey.

Yolchu Khanvali, Press secretary of the State Veterinary Service of Azerbaijan, said importation of poultry production from Turkey will be suspended as soon as the International Epizootic Bureau sends an official letter to Azerbaijan.

“Importation will be temporarily banned as bird flu was discovered in
products of northern Turkey and Azerbaijan, produced at poultry farms, located on the Mediterranean seashore. Azerbaijan last imported poultry products from Turkey 15 days ado. There is nothing to worry about,” he added.

Azerbaijan imports poultry products from Brazil, Turkey and the United States.

Azerbaijan will release results of bird flu monitoring on February 1.
