Azerbaijan is likely to launch its communications satellite in late 2009 or early 2010, Ali Abbasov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, said.

He added that the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) is to grant a license to Azerbaijan in 2009.

According to him, the national satellite project may be drafted until the license is granted.

He said the officer of the Ministry officer Ilaha Rzayeva will be sent to the ITU for six months for the project-related activities.
