Ilham Aliyev: "All business development programs aim at maximal reduction of Azerbaijan's dependence on import"

14 January 2008 [10:32] - TODAY.AZ
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev noted at a session of the government that the government pays special attention to the rise in prices and inflation.

The head of state noted that the inflation, which exceeded 16% in 2007, is a very high indicator, despite the 38% rise in the incomes of the population.

"The incomes of the population rose by 38%, and, thus, the real incomes of the population made up 22% which is a high indicator", the President said.

"We must preserve the stable macroeconomic situation in 2008. According to the statements, there are objective and subjective factors", the President said and noted that the rise in world prices of oil causes the rise in prices of imported products.

"A greater part of our consumer market depends on import. All programs of regions development, programs of industrialization and entrepreneurship development aim at maximal reduction of Azerbaijan's dependence on import. We attain it step-by-step, but still a part of products is imported from abroad", I.Aliyev noted.

The President said that one of the objective factors of inflation is a rise in monetary incomes of the population of the country and increase of wages and pensions.

"At the same time, there are also subjective reasons. Attempts should be made to eliminate them. There is a necessity to set the principle of sound competition and to eliminate monopoly. Monopolies in import or in inner production are inadmissible.

Therefore, I do hope that in the result of macroeconomic and administration measures, inflation will not go beyond the normal frames in 2008", the President of Azerbaijan said.
