Azerbaijan to apply new criteria to grant disability degrees

"Some receive disability degree illegally and pretend to be disabled. But we have developed new regulations for determining disability. We will carry out reform in the Medial Examination Commission to bring it in line with international standards," Azerbaijan's Labor and Social Protection Minister Fuzuli Alakbarov told at the board meeting.

He said some 420,000 people were registered as disabled in the country. "We will apply more transparent procedure," he added.

He also added that 56,000 families were granted targeted social assistance benefits in 2006 but the amount of benefits has been increased this year.

"The amount of money assistance was AZN 44.58 last year while it is AZN 66-67 now," he said. APA-Economics
