Azerbaijan to increase gas exports to Georgia, Nika Gilauri says

20 March 2007 [10:29] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan is going to increase natural gas exports to Georgia, said the country's energy minister Nika Gilauri during his visit to Jandara settlement where Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline joins Georgia’s gas distribution grid.

He added that Georgia is currently importing 1.3 million cubic meters of natural gas per day from Azerbaijan via the old pipeline ($120/1,000 cu m), besides 1 million cubic meters per day of Azeri gas through Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline ($62.5/1,000 cu m), 2.5 million cubic meters of Russian gas per day ($235/1,000 cu m) and 0.7 million cu m of natural gas as transit tax for Russian gas transit to Armenia from Russia.

He expressed hope for more Azeri gas, saying Georgia will get more natural gas from Azerbaijan as the production grows in the Shah Deniz Field of Azerbaijan. "I think Georgia is likely to receive Azeri gas through the old pipeline after April 1," he said. APA-Economics
