Government committed to funding transport

18 May 2006 [12:34] - TODAY.AZ
A total of $747 million has been spent on the upgrade of roads in Azerbaijan in the past few years.

The operations were carried out on account of the funds allocated by the government and loans borrowed from various financial institutions, Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov told journalists on Wednesday. He noted that the overall length of roads in the country is 4,000 kilometers, AssA-Irada reports.

The minister said investments worth $1.5bn will be directed to the development of roads and transport over the next three years.

"The investments are mainly channeled to the repair and construction of roads. As a result of the activities, the transportation of cargo is increasing year by year," Mammadov said.
