Viktor Khristenko: "Submerged pipelines' costruction is possible only after determination of the legal status of Caspian Sea"

23 February 2006 [09:10] - TODAY.AZ
Any decision on construction of submerged pipelines in the Caspian Sea can be adopted only after determination of the legal status, was stated by the Minister of Industry and Energy of Russia Viktor Khristenko.

Being on his visit to Baku, V.Khristenko said that only an agreement on utilization of resources had been achieved between the parties. Those countries are Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. "Other cooperation issues require important international legal base", V.Khristenko stressed.

The Minister considers that projects on construction of submerged pipelines in the Caspian Sea should also be substantiated from the economic efficiency viewpoint.

"Pipeline is not the final objective; it is simply a tool between producer and consumer, that is, it is a market question. From this point of view, on the one hand, technical issues should not be simplified, and on the other hand, they should not be converted to political matters, since there are many economic matters in this issue", the Russian Minister said, according to APA.
