Chief of Metro says no discussions held in Tariff Council on raising fare in metro

21 January 2006 [04:00] - TODAY.AZ
The Tariff Council has not discussed the issue on raising fare in the Metro.

As APA informs according to the chief of Baku Metro Taghi Ahmadov, the issue on raising fare in the Metro is not in the topic of discussion at present: "Of course, I would be glad if fare is raised. I don't believe there is Metro working for 5 kopecks or 250 manats in any country during 10 years. Anyway, the government is responsible for raising tariff and I am only an executer."

As concerns the project on usage of microchip-cards in the Metro, T.Ahmadov said that plastic cards for payment of fare in the Baku Metro can be used starting from March of this year.

It should be noted that 64 turnstiles produced by the "Lot" Company of Ukraine have already been installed in the stations of the Metro in connection with switching to the card system. 132 more turnstiles will be brought to the country till March.

The Metro will pay $3-4 thousand for 1 turnstile. In general, switching to the cashless payment system will cost the Baku Metro about $2 million.
