SOCAR will stop buying gas from Russia if it increases prices for it

10 November 2005 [14:23] - TODAY.AZ
"If Russia raises the price of gas sold to Azerbaijan, we will refuse buying gas from this country," said the president of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Natig Aliyev.

Aliyev said that at the moment there are no problems with purchasing gas from Russia: "Everyone knows that Azerbaijan needs gas today. That is why we use and have used so far all our potentialities. Azerbaijan demanded more natural gas and we gradualy increased gas import from Russia starting several years ago".

N.Aliyev also noted that the process is profitable for the country. "This is profitable for us. Because we import gas and use it for our power stations saving oil. We can also use oil processing plants in a technological regime," Aliyev said.
