Russian oil company is studying opportunities for oil pumping via BTC

Experts of the Russian company Sibirneft are involved in studying the economy of the project on pumping oil from Russia via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export oil pipeline.
Two potential options for oil delivery to BTC is under consideration, a company source told Trend.

"Firstly the possibilities for oil pumping via to be revered pipeline Baku-Novorossiysk, as well as crude delivery from Makhachkala port are under study," the same source noted.

The situation with oil transportation via the Turkish Gulf Bosphorus became worse. "The commencement of the construction of a tunnel over Bosphorus complicates the passage of large-tonnage tankers. There are also problems with the transportation in connection with daily toughening of passage rules for tankers by the Turkish government," the source elaborated.

Meanwhile, the sources close to the Turkish transport companies underline the tough situation due to construction of a tunnel over Bosphorus will remain till 2008.

Last year Sibirneft produced 31,45 million tons of oil against 34.04 million tons in 2003. The oil export grew to 13,58 million tons as compared 12,46 million tons. Major directions of export transportation are the ports in Novorossiysk and Tuapse in the lack Sea, as well as Germany and Poland via the Druzhba pipeline. Sibirneft ships Siberian Light via the Tuapse port (with further delivery to the Mediterranean Sea via the Turkish straits.
