SOCAR to end modernization of ethylene-polyethylene plant in September

Overhaul of the ethylene-polyethylene plant belonging to SOCAR’s Azerikimya PU will be completed in September.

Azerbaijan’s energy giant SOCAR announced that the plant, which was closed for overhaul on August 10, will be returned to operation on September 20 - the Day of Oil Workers.

The company added that President of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev inspected the repair and modernization works on August 17.

The existing technological installations will be modernized in the framework of the reconstruction project, which is being implemented by Technip Italy and will be completed by 2019.

The reconstruction project will make it possible to increase the production capacity of Azerikimya, provide raw materials to the polypropylene and polyethylene production units (currently under construction), cover domestic demand, increase export potential, enhance stability and safety of the technological process, as well as improve the quality of raw materials and products manufactured at the plant.

Earlier, Plant’s Director Ogtay Niftaliyev said that polyethylene production wills rich 105,000 tons per year after the modernization work.

Azerikimya PU owns an ethylene-polyethylene plant, a surfactants plant, an organic synthesis plant, a machinery maintenance plant, a chemical engineering institute, a repair and construction division, a transportation and special equipment division, and a storage facility.

Besides Azerikimya, SOCAR includes such production associations as Azneft (the enterprises producing oil and gas onshore and offshore) and Azerigas (distributor of gas produced in the country), as well as oil and gas processing plants, service companies, and the facilities involved in geophysical and drilling operations.

SOCAR participates in joint ventures (including ventures in Georgia and Turkey), consortia, and operating companies established with SOCAR’s participation.
