SOCAR breaks ground for new compressing station in Azerbaijan

21 August 2014 [10:49] - TODAY.AZ
SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) intends to build a new gas compressor station at Garadagh underground gas storage, a source in SOCAR told Trend on Aug. 20.

Currently gas storage has two gas compressor stations of capacity of 2 and 10 million cubic meters of gas per day, respectively.

"Construction of the third gas compressor station is a necessity", the source said. "This will primarily provide a timely stop and inspection of units in the days of peak demand. Also the construction of the new station will positively affect the injection and extraction of gas."

The agency says that a place for the plant has already been defined, and its capacity will be at least three million cubic meters of gas per day, according to preliminary data.

"However, everything will depend on the equipment that has not been already selected", the company said.

SOCAR said that depending on the equipment the power of the station can make five or more million cubic meters per day.

"The power of the station will be at least three million cubic meters of gas per day", the source stressed.

There are two underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan - Kalmaz and Garadagh. Both of them are on the balance of SOCAR.

On the results of the last season of gas injection the volume of gas in underground gas storage facilities of Azerbaijan exceeded 3.43 billion cubic meters versus about 3.3 billion cubic meters (according to the results of the previous season injection).

Capacities of underground gas storage facilities of the country allow to store more than 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas.
