At the beginning of July this year, the number of employees in the economy of Azerbaijan amounted to 1,620,600 and the average number (for calculation of the average wage) in July reached 1,391,500, the State Committee for Statistics said.
'Some 850,000 people have been working in the public sector and 541,500 in the private one', the statement read.
The number of employees in education amounted to 23.7 per cent, trade and service of vehicles - 19.4 per cent, industry - 12.4 per cent, the field of health and social services - 9.5 per cent, transport and warehousing - five per cent, professional scientific and technical activities - 3.2 per cent and the field of communications and information technology - 1.8 per cent.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the average salary of employees in Azerbaijan amounted to 394,6 manat in June and this figure increased by 8.4 per cent in January - July compared to the same period last year amounting to 386 manat.
'Wages in such areas of the economy such as mining, financial and insurance activities, information and communication, professional, scientific and technical activities in science and technology and construction are above average', the statement said.
