SOCAR to open petrol stations in country's regions by autumn

State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), plans to commission two new gas stations in the north of Azerbaijan in October, a source in SOCAR told Trend on Tuesday.

"The construction of two gas stations in Siyazan region continues, and they will be commissioned in October," the source said.

It will be the first petrol stations, opened by SOCAR outside of the capital.

The source noted that there are 14 SOCAR petrol stations, operating in Azerbaijan, but their number will reach 16 after the commissioning of two regional petrol stations.

It is planned to increase the number of SOCAR stations to 100 across the country. They will be located in major cities and at the entrances and exits to each region.

The shareholders of the SOCAR Petroleum are SOCAR (51 percent) and the American AP International (49 percent). SOCAR Petroleum was registered on January 21, 2008.

SOCAR has a large network of filling stations in Georgia, and opening gas stations in Ukraine and Romania. SOCAR also acquired a large network of filling stations in Switzerland.
