Azerbaijani, Portuguese businessmen to meet in Baku

A meeting of businessmen from both countries will be held on June 27 within a Portuguese delegation, headed by Foreign Minister Paolo Portas's official visit to Baku, Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) under the Ministry of Economic Development said today.

"This will be the first meeting of Azerbaijani and Portuguese businessmen," spokesman for the Ministry of Economic Development Abbas Aliyev told Trend today. "Bilateral meetings are planned to be held within this meeting."

He said that the Portuguese delegation will include the individuals operating in the field of construction, architecture, power engineering, food industry, ICT, chemical, pharmaceutical and other spheres.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, as of 2011 trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Portugal amounted to $327.45 million. About $322.26 million fall to export. As of January - April 2012, the total foreign trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $175.28 million. About $174.98 million fall to export.

AZPROMO was established by the Azerbaijani government in 2003. The supreme governing body of the Foundation is Board of Trustees composed of representatives from government, private sector and the international community.

Initially the foundation was created to support the attraction of foreign direct investments, but since 2005 its functions have included the promotion of exports of local products and services.
